... the war of FOG

I intend to sharing most all of the public domain: information: trade secrets and processes for defogging windows so you can make informed decisions.

Most all of the processes and methods are now in the public domain and there remain a number of companies still trying to profit from the work originally done by Crystal Clear Window Works Canada.

At one point in time Crystal Clear Window Works Canada was the only company who had secured and developed IP rights, trade secrets and designs for the processes and methods of removing moisture from foggy windows. When the process is done properly the system works very effectively - when done by cowboys ... it is little more than a scam.

If you are considering purchasing a dealership, franchise, business system, license, country license or purchase defogging products or training for moisture removal from failed thermal pane windows we can help with due diligence and research.

You should read this site carefully and proceed with caution as there are many scam artists and fraudsters to watch out for and information that you should understand.

Insulated Glass Units deflecting

Thermal Pane or Double Glazed or Dual Pane or Insulated Glass Units will all fail over time. Barometric changes and fluctuations in temperature create pressure differentials between the inside air space and the atmosphere. These pressure differentials cause the lites of glass to deflect inboard or outboard which in turn creates, over time, a weakness in the glass sealant interface. Eventually ambient air with is residual water vapour will be drawn into the sealed united during its cooling cycle.

Drilling window glass to remove moisture and fog ... what is the best tool

Inexpensive battery operated rotary tools provide the best results for drilling through clear glass lites of glass. Rotary tools from Dremel, owned by Bosch, Black and Decker, Sears Craftsmen all produce the same results. Use a 4mm diamond burr or drum bit, run the rotary tool at near maximum rpm and with a steady hand begin to carve a cresent shaped groove to steady the dremel as you drill through the glass. Note; YOU CANNOT DRILL TEMPERED GLASS WITH THIS METHOD

Pressure Spray Bottles

High quality pressure bottles should be used, ensure that the seals and hoses are compatible with acid, alkaline and methyl alcohol. You should be able to sustain 40 psi during use and 150 psi when left in sun.

PATENT, TRADEMARK AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

At a point in time, Crystal Clear Window Works a Canadian Company,  owned or used under exclusive license and assignment, certain Intellectual Property rights for technologies, methods, products and processes to restore, repair, and renew residential and commercial Insulated Glass Units/Sealed Units  in windows and doors by applying thermal pane moisture control systems to remove moisture and condensation, restore insulation value and prevent the re-occurrence of condensation in and the further degradation of failed Sealed Units in place and other methods for repair of windows and/or glass.

Only CCWW Canadian companies and their licensee in good standing had the right to use this Intellectual Property portfolio under licence.

Crystal Clear Window Works UK does not own nor do they have any agreements that lets them use or convey the IP to licensee.  CCWW UK seems to representing that control it and they do not.

ssshhh - don't tell any one ... secret drying agent - Methyl Hydrate - Methyl Alcohol

Methyl Hydrate

Recochem’s Methyl Hydrate is a 99.9% pure versatile product with so many uses that all hardware and paint departments as well as automotive, camping equipment and general merchandize retailers regularly stock it.
Methyl Hydrate is used for:
  • Thinning shellac
  • Cleaning brushes that have been used with shellac
  • Cleaning windows, when mixed with water
  • Defrosting air line hoses on tractor trailers & commercial vehicles during extreme cold temperatures
  • Fondue fuel
  • Fuel for marine unpressurized alcohol stoves
  • Dissolving gums, resins, and celluloid
Recochem’s Methyl Hydrate is colourless and smokeless when burned. Since it contains methyl alcohol and is flammable, all our containers are clearly marked with poison and flammability warning symbols. Keep out of reach of children.

What kind of solutions/fluids are being sprayed inside windows

Most the low end copy cat companies are using two or three fluids.

First, they use distilled water which is inert and serves little to no purpose in the cleaning of the inside lights of glass ... caution should also we used so as not to flood the spacer bar with water.

Then add any household vinegar, such as Heinz, to the distilled water to act as a cleaner

Then they may use methanol or methyl  alcohol to dry the windows - which can be purchased off the shelf at most hardware, paint stores and big box stores.

Faulty product - delamination, wrong glue and wrong plastic which clouded and turn yellow with no uv inhibitor

The Window Sieve

Not just a little piece of plastic, we use triple UV inhibitor and custom extruded plastic with our own private formulea to assure and provide you with years of service for your clients.   The last thing you want is customers coming back in a year and complaining that their Sieves has fallen off worst it has turned yellow and brittle.

Our Adhesive is UV protected and the only true optically clear adhesive in the market.   The same product used in the aerospace industry to layer protective shields on monitors and glass cockpits in fighter jets and the space shuttle.

Each Sieves is die cut, laminated and assembled of 5 different layers. Being only 1/16" high it is used extensively where clearance is a issue and also where large amounts of air flow is required such patio doors or large window panes.

The Window Valve
Manufactured of the same high quality products as our Sieve but has the added protection of a hood.

... THESE CLAIMS BY THIS VENDOR ARE SIMPLY UNTRUE ...  PICTURES ARE WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS.

THIS DEFOG SUPPLIES PRODUCT IS SUBSTANDARD AS IT SEPARATES, YELLOWS AND BECOMES BRITTLE AND FALLS OFF THE WINDOW - THOUSANDS OF THIS SUPPLIERS PRODUCT WAS REPLACED. .

THE PRODUCT IS MADE OF SIMPLE OFF THE SHELF 3M SHEET PLASTIC AND 3 M ADHESIVES AND THE MESH SCREEN IS A PLASTIC SCREEN MATERIAL ALSO AVAILABLE OFF THE SHELF - WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO DIRECT YOU TO THE PRODUCT SUPPLIERS.

What kind of drill bit do I use to fix foggy windows

The best way to drill in hole in glass is to use a 4mm diamond drum head or burr bit.

Use a battery operated dremel like tool, use a water based lubricant to cool the bit. start the bit on its edge and drill a small cresent in the glass. The use the groove to steady the drill bit and use plenty of water to drill through. The best bits/burs are purchased online from a vendor in Hong Kong on ebay.

There are no patents, patents pending or any protections any longer in the United Kingdom

To my knowledge there are no valid United Kingdom patents or protections for CCWW UK and the get fog out business of repairing double glazed windows - there are few if any trade secrets remaining either.

If you want to understand who has rights and who does not ... just ask

The bottom line is that there are no valid agreements between CCWW UK and CCWW Canada. The agreements have been terminated and there are NO surviving rights for the United Kingdom or European Union

Don't be fooled by claims of a one way valve for Defogging

Simply put a one way valve for the removal of moisture from between thermal pane windows is a worst an ignorant claim and at best flagrant lie.

If a one way valve is installed it must dissipate water vapor, therefore by definition the valve should close on the cooling cycle of the air and recreate the same conditions that drew water into the cavity.

Canada has the only patent for moisture removal of thermal pane windows

Stephen Collins is the holder of several Canadian patents of moisture removal from thermal pane windows. Many of us doubted the validity of the patents and it appears while the Canadian patent office did issue patents we don't believe that an adequate prior art search was conducted. We have found the repair process being well documenting in business journals and international patents predating the Collins patents by years.

Navigating through the fog of the window defogging business

This GET THE FOG OUT blog will be used to help homeowners and commercial businesses understand the process and to understand who does and does not have the rights, technical ability and business acumen for the removal of moisture for failed thermal pane windows.

We also intend to sharing  all the public domain information and processes for defogging windows.

There no longer any trade secrets or patents that have any validity for the defogging process. Through this blog will will share all the secrets, formulas, suppliers, designs of the business.
